There’s a new face at the helm of Shaftesbury FC as Josh Staunton takes his first steps into management with the Pitching In Southern League Division One South club.
On the back of an historic campaign last time out, which saw the club reach the play-off final, Staunton will be looking to tap into his extensive experience as a player that saw him appear over 200 times in The National League.
“I am really excited to step into the world of management,” he said. “I am grateful for the opportunity to be at the helm and with the experience I have around me, I hope it can be an extremely successful period for all!
“Already I am counting down the days until pre-season! I can’t wait to get started and build on what the club achieved last season.”
Staunton, who hung up his boots at Poole Town last year, will have Steve Rutter alongside him as assistant manager.
“Josh impressed the club immediately with his ambition, his clear tactical understanding and his determination to continue raising standards both on and off the pitch,” said Chairman, Steve Coffen. “He brings with him a winning mentality forged at the highest level of non-league football, and the club is confident he is the right appointment to lead the first team into this exciting new chapter.
“It was important to build a leadership group capable of continuing the standards, ambition and progression that have driven Shaftesbury FC forward in recent years.”
