Spading United were pushed all of the way by Halesowen Town in Wednesday’s Pitching In Southern League Premier Central play-off semi-final.
Despite the two teams finishing the season 15 points apart, it was a hard-fought encounter that could have gone either way until Yusifu Ceesay popped up with 15 minutes to go to send the home side through to Monday’s Final, where they will host Real Bedford.
“It was an excellent game on Wednesday between two good sides,” Jack Roberts told us having played his part in the win. “We set up to play a certain way against them and it worked.
“As a group we were excellent all night. The defensive unit was solid, midfield was tight and compact, whilst the front three caused problems throughout.
“It was a tricky hurdle to overcome but now we’re all excited for the next challenge against another top side in Real Bedford.
“We know that it will another difficult match up; we will train this week with all focus on delivering one final time.
“I must say that our fans were incredible on Wednesday. It was the highest gate we’ve had this season and it helped massively.
“Naturally, we would love them to come out in their numbers one final time for us on Monday and help drive us over the finish line.
“It’s been an up and down seasons; we’ve had so many highs and so many lows at the same time. We feel ready to finish strong and achieve our objective come the final whistle on Monday.”
