For the second play-off game in a row, Bradley Bell will face a former club as he takes his place in the Biggleswade FC side that travels to Hitchin Town in the Pitching In Southern League Division One Central play-off final.
“I can’t wait,” he told us. “Obviously Hitchin are a club that I’ve had many great memories with over the years and now playing against them in a game as big as this will be pretty insane, to be honest.
“It will be two good ball-playing teams that will hopefully serve up an entertaining game.
“There was certainly plenty going on in the semi-final against Biggleswade Town on Wednesday! It was mayhem to begin with; we gifted them an early goal and went in behind at the break.
“We never lost faith in our ability to turn it around and win the game. The substitutes came on and made such a big impact, as they have done regularly for us this season.
“The sending off gave us a boost at the right time and to get one back with 15 minutes to go, we felt that we could go on and win it in normal time.
“But we were forced to go into extra-time and with everyone out on their feet, mistakes were going to happen at both ends.
“Town had their chances but luckily we survived and were able to go on and grab the winner! Personally, I felt that I had a good game. I gave everything I had out there and had chances, which I couldn’t capitalise upon this time.
“I was just happy to find Coley’s head with that free-kick to win it with around five minutes to go!
“There was such an enormous sense of relief and happiness at the final whistle. I never doubted the attitude and commitment of the boys; we knew it would be tense and cagey but we worked together to get it over the line and this togetherness means we have a chance on Monday.
“Going there with 3,000 tickets sold in five hours will be crazy, I’ve never seen anything like it at this level. Our travelling fans will be massive for us. They really helped us get the job done on Wednesday and the noise when we scored was fantastic.”
So, how would Bell rate the season as a whole?
“It’s been a bit of a rollercoaster,” he admitted. “I started the season with Welwyn Garden City and then moved across to Biggleswade FC where I have found my love for the game again.
“I am incredibly grateful to the management team for giving me the platform to perform. As a club it’s amazing, you can feel the buzz around the place and to finish third on 89 points with over 100 goals scored is a big achievement.
“I did say earlier in the campaign that we would be a surprise package, so let’s see what Monday brings!”
