Gloucester City legend, Joe Hanks, is determined to put the disappointment of last season’s play-off final well and truly behind him as he prepares for Monday’s Pitching In Southern League Premier South showdown at Farnham Town.
12 months ago City fell to a single-goal defeat at AFC Totton and now they take on a Farnham outfit that finished one place and two points above them.
“Farnham are a very good side,” he said. “They’ve got some great players and been brilliant all season; all of our focus will be on that.
“We’re really looking forward to the occasion and hopefully we can create some more fantastic moments.
“It’s going to be a sell-out crowd and our supporters will pack the away end and create a great atmosphere.
“As a player there’s nothing better than playing in front of a big crowd and having great support behind you. The sacrifices we all make is worth it for playing in big games like this.
“Fingers crossed we can give the fans something to cheer about and celebrate with them afterwards.
“The semi-final against Poole was an incredible experience. It was two very good teams giving their all and thankfully we were able to get through.
“The atmosphere was incredible and it was a pleasure to play in. I’m just glad I was able to play a part in the victory and I’m now looking forward to doing it all again on Monday in another massive game.
“I feel that it’s been another good season for us. We’ve put ourselves in a position to get promoted and hopefully we can go one better than last year’s disappointment.
“For me personally, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the season and just hope that I can get another opportunity to celebrate with the fans after Mondays game.”
