THE ROUND UP | PLAY OFF FINAL ACTION

A Bank Holiday Monday afternoon of thrills and spills

Play-Off Final Day brought its drama and intrigue across our four divisions.

In the Premier South, Farnham Town’s remarkable rise continues as they secured Step 2 status courtesy of a commanding 5-1 triumph over Gloucester City.

Another coolly-taken penalty from Darryl Sanders set them on their way at the start of the second period before two quick-fire goals followed to put them well in control.

There was a reply from the visitors soon afterwards as Kane Simpson found the net, but two further late goals from the hosts gave them victory.

There were also six goals in the Premier Central Final as Spadling United secured promotion thanks to a 4-2 success at the expense of Real Bedford.

The hosts went ahead through Yusifu Ceesay as half-time approached, but the away team were able to turn the scoreline on its head with only seven minutes remaining. However, Jack Roberts, netted a stoppage time penalty to take it to extra time where Bart Cybulski and Ben Fowkes turned it back in the favour of the home side.

Over in Division One South, there was another see-saw encounter at Malvern Town where the hosts won 3-2 to secure Step 3 football for the first ever time.

A goal from Joe Bullock put the hosts ahead early on only for Santos to level from the spot soon afterwards. Leading scorer, Toby Holmes gave the visitors a half-time lead before Harry Clark – wide the aid of a wicked deflection – and then Sam Clark turned it back around.

It was another tight affair at Hitchin Town where the hosts triumphed 2-1 against Biggleswade FC.

Fernando Bell-Toxtle notched the only goal of the first half for the home team and it was doubled as the hour-mark approached when Ciaren Jones found the net.

The away team pulled a goal back from the spot as Alex Marsh converted but they were unable to take the game to extra-time as Hitchin made their Step 3 return.
