Tiverton Town have received a summer boost with the news that talented central defender, Matt Wood, has committed to the club for the 2026/27.
Taking over the captain’s armband during the latter part of last term as the club slipped to relegation into the Pitching In Southern League Division One South, Wood was an influential figure in what was a young group of players.
“It was a really proud moment for me and my family to get the captaincy, with Tiverton being such a big club in Devon,” Wood admitted to his club’s media. “It was a difficult time, of course, it was; there were lots of changes in the squad and behind the scenes.
“Every season you learn from the previous ones, and at Step 3 as a defender, you definitely do get punished for your mistakes or lack of concentration. Having that experience builds a better performance from me.
“It was nice to get the Player’s Player of the Season award because recognition from your peers means so much.
“Now the focus is on the new season and ensuring that we can get back on track and challenge for an immediate return.
“It won’t be easy and the message to the fans is please come along; we do hear you on the pitch and your support really motivates us.
“We all need to be working together if we are to achieve our objectives.”
