PITCHING IN SOUTHERN LEAGUE | TUESDAY REVIEW

All the action on a soggy Tuesday

On what was a soggy Tuesday evening, there were two games played in the Pitching In Southern League Premier South with another abandoned after half-an-hour and one postponement.

Plymouth Parkway secured a much-needed three points from a 2-1 victory over Didcot Town. Tom Purrington set them on their way in the first half before Murphy Bennett brought the scores level midway through the second period. It was Reece Thompson who popped up with the winner 13 minutes from time.

It was also 2-1 in the other game that was played, this time, though, it was in favour of the away side as Hungerford Town game from behind to beat Poole Town. Toby Holmes put the hosts ahead on 18 minutes only for a brace from Elliott Dugan to turn the scoreline around in the final quarter-of-an-hour.

Over at Hanwell Town, it was 1-1 in their game against Sholing when a waterlogged pitch caused the game to be abandoned.

The game between Tiverton Town and Winchester City was postponed earlier in the day.

Just one game took place in the Pitching In Southern League Premier Central and it proved to be a good night for Coalville Town as Scott McManus’ goal just before half-time was enough to see them bet second-place Mickleover.

An explosive first half performance from Mousehole saw them run out comfortable 5-0 victors over Bideford in the Pitching In Southern League Division One South.

Hayden Turner set them on their way in the 13th minute and he proceeded to help himself to a hat-trick over the next 14 minutes with Callam McOnie also getting on the scoresheet. A late Josh Otto completed the scoring.

There was a hard-earned 1-0 win for Cribbs as Ross McErlain’s goal on the stroke of half-time gave them the points against Melksham Town.

The wet weather caused the postponement of Bashley’s home encounter with Westbury United.

It was a busy night in the Pitching In Southern League Division One Central with plenty of drama.

Going into the evening, Biggleswade Town were top of the table and things were going to plan for them when Harry Draper put them ahead early on against Cirencester Town. However, the visitors had other ideas and levelled matters through Harry Burns on 25 minutes before nicking it deep into stoppage time at the end through Willem Pooley.

It was similarly dramatic at Bedford Town where Leon Lobjoit wasted little time in giving them the lead against Thame United. The evergreen Jefferson Louis equalised but Carl Mensah restored the hosts’ advantage early in the second period with a clever finish. Back came the visitors as Mark Riddick struck before Rio Dasilva won it late on for the home team.

There were two good away wins as Hadley went to Kempston Rovers and chalked up a 6-1 triumph. Isaac Stones set things rolling before Germaine Dua doubled the advantage. Quickfire strikes from Caoilan McGettigan and Luke Alfano right on half-time gave them a four-goal advantage going into the second period as Stones added his second on the hour and Finley Aldridge made it six. Edwin Daffern grabbed a late consolation for the hosts.

Having seen manager, Brett Donnelly, depart last week, Stotfold were 4-1 winners at North Leigh. Kade Bagge set them on their way before Henry Snee doubled their lead. Luca Alonzi pulled one back before the break but in the second half, Snee weighed in with his second of the evening and Billy Little rounded things off to secure a good three points.

AFC Dunstable battled out a 3-2 victory over Biggleswade FC. Louis Walsh upset the visitors by opening the scoring on 20 minutes but that was cancelled out by Dan Bond ten minutes later. The opening exchanges of the second half saw Yoav Sade Lichtenfeld put the home side back in front before Rocko Tamplin increased the advantage. Bond’s second goal of the game proved to be too little, too late.

The evening’s other game saw Welwyn Garden City leave it late to beat Leighton Town 2-1. Lynton Goss gave the hosts a first half lead, which was cancelled out by Albie Hall as the clock ticked down at the end. There was still time for Brad Wadkins to notch the winner in the final minute.
