PITCHING IN SOUTHERN LEAGUE | WEEKEND REVIEW

Plenty of drama to come on the penultimate weekend of the season

It’s the penultimate weekend of the season and as such there is plenty to play for across all four divisions and there is sure to be drama aplenty. Here’s our pick of the action.

AFC TOTTON v MERTHYR TOWN | PITCHING IN SOUTHERN LEAGUE PREMIER SOUTH
There is only one more play-off spot up for grabs and Merthyr Town hold it as it stands. Several other teams still have their eyes on it as the Welsh outfit travel to face an AFC Totton side who, whilst assured of their play-off place, are battling to finish as high up the table as they can. They are currently fourth, but only two points off second place, so all is still to play for.

STRATFORD TOWN v BROMSGROVE SPORTING | PITCHING IN SOUTHERN LEAGUE PREMIER CENTRAL
This local derby has a bearing at both ends of the table. Stratford Town currently hold the last play-off place and are one of four clubs battling it out for the two available spots, so they can’t afford any slip-ups. At the other end of the table, Bromsgrove Sporting are one of three clubs vying to avoid the last relegation place. They have a four-point advantage over AFC Sudbury, who are just inside the relegation zone, so one final push is needed from them.

WIMBORNE TOWN v FROME TOWN | PITCHING IN SOUTHERN LEAGUE DIVISION ONE SOUTH
The easiest Star Game selection of the season as the top two go head-to-head. Wimborne Town hold the advantage, two points clear and with a game in hand. They are unbeaten at home and know that a win will give them the title. For Frome Town, they will go there and give it everything they’ve got, so it makes for an entertaining and tense game in prospect between two teams who have really showed their quality over the course of the season.

NORTH LEIGH v BIGGLESWADE TOWN | PITCHING IN SOUTHERN LEAGUE DIVISION ONE CENTRAL
The title race rumbles on with Biggleswade Town currently sitting pretty, three points ahead of second-place Bedford Town. They hit the road to face a North Leigh outfit who, not too long ago, also had title aspirations of their own, but mid-season changes at the club have seen their challenge fall away. Meanwhile their title rivals, Bedford Town, are also on the road as they head to Leighton Town. Will the title be decided this weekend or go down to the final day?
