THE ROUND-UP | SATURDAY ACTION

Raining goals this weekend

The goals were flying in across our four divisions this weekend.

In the Premier South, leaders, Walton & Hersham, hit six as they chalked up a 6-2 victory over Basingstoke Town. Not to be outdone, Gloucester City hit five without reply to beat Wimborne Town; including amongst their haul was a hat-trick from Kane Simpson.

There was drama at Poole Town where a last minute penalty and stoppage time strike from Shaquille Gwengwe gave them a 3-1 triumph over Berkhamsted. A late goal from Ogochukwu Obi was enough to give fourth-placed Farnham Town a 1-0 win at Yate Town.

Sholing remain in fifth spot after they played out a goalless draw at Evesham United.

Over in the Premier Central, leaders, Spalding United, notched three second half goals to beat bottom of the table, Royston Town, 3-0. They have now hit the 70-point mark, four clear of Harborough Town who left it late to beat Stratford Town 2-1.

Real Bedford saw their unbeaten run come to an end with a 2-1 loss at Stourbridge, whilst Redditch United came home from their Worcestershire derby with Alvechurch with a 1-0 victory thanks to a goal just before the break. Holding on to the final play-off place is Quorn, despite their 4-1 loss at Halesowen Town, who are part of the chasing pack that are now closing in on them.

Into Division One South and leaders, Frome Town, picked up a commanding 4-1 away win at Larkhall Athletic to move 14 points clear as second-placed Malvern Town were held to a 1-1 draw at Melksham Town in a game which saw them reduced to ten men for the final 30 minutes.

Closing the gap in third place are Portishead Town who came home from Bideford AFC with a 2-1 success. The battle of the two play-off hopefuls went the way of Bishops Cleeve as two late Ross Langworthy goas saw them overturn the deficit against Winchester City. The two sides are now eve on points in the final two play-off spots, with Shaftesbury just outside after their game at Tavistock AFC fell victim of the weather.

Division One Central leaders, Leighton Town, recorded a 3-1 home win against Stotfold and their day was complete with the news that second-placed Hitchin Town slipped to a 3-2 reverse at Leverstock Green meaning that the gap between the top two now stands at six points.

Third-placed Biggleswade FC had a good 4-1 away win at London Lions as Biggleswade Town remained on their shirt-tails as they went one better with a 5-1 victory over Aylesbury United. The goals were also flying in for Hertford Town as they beat Barton Rovers 6-2 to remain fifth, ahead of Thame United, who won 4-0 at Beaconsfied Town, on goal difference.
