THE ROUND-UP | SATURDAY ACTION

Another dramatic day

There was plenty of great action across our four divisions this weekend.

In the Premier South, leaders, Walton & Hersham, edged a hard-fought encounter with Farnham Town as Mason Obeng’s goal proved to be the difference. It had added significance as second-placed Gloucester City fell to a single-goal defeat at Berkhamsted, as they kept their own bid for the play-offs alive.

Poole Town had to come from behind to beat Taunton Town 2-1, whilst Sholing enjoyed a commanding 4-0 victory over fellow play-off hopefuls, Chertsey Town. Tommy Higgs weighed in with a hat-trick as his side sit fifth, ahead of their opponents on goal difference.

Over in the Premier Central, Spalding United are back on top after they came from two goals behind to beat Halesowen Town 3-2, with two of their goals coming within the final ten minutes from Jack Roberts. Meanwhile, Harborough Town were held to a 1-1 home draw by Real Bedford, who remain third.

They are one point ahead of Quorn, who beat Banbury United with a goal in each half. Needham Market are fifth after they came back from a half-time deficit at home to struggling St. Ives Town with a three-goal burst at the start of the second half. They leapfrog Redditch United, were held to a 1-1 draw at Bury Town.

In Division One South, Frome Town sit pretty after they brushed aside Bishops Cleeve by four goals to nil. Second-placed Malvern Town had to work hard for their 5-2 victory over in-form Willand Rovers, who frustrated them for long periods.

Just below them, Portishead Town, in third place, were in seventh heaven as they beat Falmouth Town 7-0, whilst Shaftesbury came out on the right end of a seven-goal thriller against Bashley, beating them 4-3. In fifth place are Winchester City, despite a 2-0 home reverse at the hands of Larkhall Athletic.

In Division One Central, Leighton Town are six points clear after they got the job done against Leverstock Green courtesy of a 2-0 home success. Second-placed Hitchin Town swept aside bottom club, AFC Dunstable, as they chalked up an 8-0 away win.

Goals were also the order of the day for Biggleswade Town as they hit five without reply against Northwood. A late winner from Alex Marsh gave Biggleswade FC a good 2-1 away win at Barton Rovers, whilst in fifth place, Hertford Town were 7-2 victors over London Lions, as Billy Mardell-Smith helped himself to a hat-trick.
