PORTISHEAD TOWN | DOUBLE TOP

Owen Humphries is on the goal trail against familiar opponents on Tuesday

Portishead Town play the second part of their Pitching In Southern League Division One South double-header with Falmouth Town on Tuesday evening.

The two teams met at the weekend with Portishead running out commanding 7-0 winners following an impressive display, which they will be looking to repeat as they head down to Cornwall.

Amongst the scorers on Saturday was Owen Humphries who bagged a brace.

“The lads put in a proper shift,” he told us. “We went about things professionally and got the three points, which is all that matters.

“I was happy with my performance and my two goals, but I should have also had a couple more, to be honest.”

Humphries admits that he is enjoying life at the club having made the step up from Clevedon Town earlier this year.

“Life at the club is class,” he added. “There are so many great people involved and everyone, from the management, fans and my team-mates have made me feel welcome.

“It’s good to be back at this level. I’ve been out of it for a couple of years, but it’s still extremely competitive and probably even more demanding now. The Gaffer and the experienced lads in the group have been a massive help in getting me to believe in my ability and that I can kick-on in this League.

“I’m really looking forward to the run-in to the end of the season; there is so much at stake, but these are the games that you want to be involved in.

“As a team, the play-offs is our goal and ideally to finish as high up as we can in order to get the home advantage.

“There are some tough fixtures to come between now and the season, including Tuesday’s game because even though we beat them 7-0 at the weekend, they will be eager for revenge and a long Tuesday away trip always brings its own challenges.

“We’re taking things game-by-game, though, and we’re ready to put in another positive performance.”

We ended by asking Humphries about his personal aims and targets.

“My personal goals from now until the end of the season is to try and contribute as many goals and assists as possible to the team so that we can get as many points as possible.

“I’m sure that with the quality we have in the team, we will be in and around the play-off positions, which is a great achievement for the club in their first season at this level.”
