THE ROUND-UP | SATURDAY ACTION

Plenty of entertainment on Non League Day

As the month of March draws to a close, things are starting to get very interesting across all four of our divisions.

In the Premier South, four of the top five ran out winners. Leaders, Walton & Hersham, are now through the 90-point barrier following a 3-1 triumph over Dorchester Town, whilst second-placed Gloucester City were commanding 3-0 winners against in-form Plymouth Parkway.

Farnham Town battled out a single-goal victory over fellow play-off hopefuls, Chertsey Town, as Poole Town were the only one of the leading pack not to taste victory as they were held to a goalless home draw by Bracknell Town. A 1-0 away win at Weymouth sees Sholing hold on to the final play-off spot.

Over in the Premier Central, the top two failed to win. Harborough Town were held to a 2-2 home draw by Bury Town, but second-placed Spalding United failed to take advantage as they were beaten 2-0 at home by relegation-threatened Bromsgrove Sporting.

There was late drama at Real Bedford as they snatched a 2-1 victory over fellow play-off challengers, Halesowen Town, who drop to seventh. It was the same scoreline in favour of Redditch United as they travelled to bottom club, Royston Town, whilst Kettering Town moved into the top five with a 5-2 success at Barwell.

Into Division One South and there is no stopping Frome Town who beat Didcot Town 2-0. Behind them, Malvern Town were 3-1 victors against Exmouth Town as two early goals set them on their way.

There was a deserved 3-0 win for Portishead Town against Shaftesbury, who sit one place out of the platy-off zone. Winchester City hit six against relegated Tavistock AFC as they ran out 6-1 winners. Meanwhile Bishops Cleeve succumbed at home to Mousehole AFC, who announced that long-serving manager, Jake Ash, will be departing at the end of the season.

Leaders, Leighton Town, ran out convincing 6-0 away winners at bottom club, AFC Dunstable, a result that was made all the sweeter with news that second-placed Hitchin Town lost 1-0 at Flackwell Heath. Leighton’s lead is now 11 points.

There was a six-goal thriller between Hertford Town, who sit one place out of the play-offs and third-placed Biggleswade Town as they played out a 3-3 draw. Goals were also the name of the game for Biggleswade FC as they brushed aside Marlow 7-2. Holding onto the final play-off place are Thame United after they shared the spoils with in-form Ware.

We hope that everyone who attended a Southern League game as part of Non League Day is tempted to return on future occasions.
