The Southern League is pleased to announce that this coming Saturday, April 11th, we will be holding our first League Community Engagement Day.
This event will be hosted at Gosport Borough FC for their Premier South against Yate Town (kick-off 3pm).
Many community groups have been invited to come along and sample the atmosphere of a local non-league football match.
Local community, civic leaders, representatives of the Southern League, together with local faith, ethnic and community groups have all been invited. The club’s junior and ladies sections will be in attendance, as will Royal Navy groups.
The objective of the day is to showcase the football club as a focal point for the local community and encourage all local residents to attend and enjoy all that a non-League football match offers in a friendly and inclusive atmosphere.
The event is being supported by Fans For Diversity, The Football Supporters Association, and both clubs are fully behind the event.
“The Southern League is delighted to be hosting this Community Engagement Day,” said League Chairman, David Martin “As a League we are committed to being an inclusive, diverse and equal organisation.
“We are looking at practical ways to implement our objective of encouraging all clubs to become more diverse. We are grateful for the support of Fans for Diversity in organising this event, which we hope will be the first of many.”
Southern League Director, Stephen Hyde, added: “The League are extremely grateful to Gosport Borough for agreeing to host this event.
“It has been a pleasure being involved in supporting the preparations for the day, and the assistance from Fans For Diversity has been invaluable.
“Both clubs have embraced the occasion and contributed to ensuring the day will be a success. Hopefully this inaugural event can create a blue-print many other Southern League clubs will consider hosting in the future.”
