Harborough Town lived up to their billing as one of the favourites for the Pitching In Southern League Premier Central title going into the season as they were crowned Champions at the weekend following their 3-1 victory at Halesowen Town.
It is their third promotion in five seasons and they have done it by losing only three of their 40 League games so far.
"It’s such an unbelievable feeling,” Riley O’Sullivan told us. “Things like this don’t come around very often, so you have to savour every moment of them.
“I was fortunate enough to win Step 4 two years ago, but the heartache of losing the play-off semi-final on penalties last year hurt greatly, so to go up as Champions this time around is an unreal feeling.
“The team has been solid throughout the campaign and to only lose three games out of 40 is a fantastic achievement whatever level you play at because it takes so much mental and physical toughness to be that consistent and relentless.
“From a personal point of view, I feel as though I have done really well; I’ve adapted to going out wide for most of the season and have managed to have my best scoring record at this level despite a lengthy suspension during the season.
“I am pleased with the contribution I have made to what is a talented and close-knit group of players. I think the pre-season trip to Madrid helped bring everyone together and we’ve gone from strength to strength since then.
“This is a highly competitive League with so many big and well-established clubs in it, so it makes our achievement even more special and now we can wait to see what the future holds in store for us.”
The immediate future will see a home game against Bishop’s Stortford on Saturday followed by a trip to Stamford AFC to bring what has been a memorable campaign to a close.
