There was Emirates FA Cup progress for Hanwell Town on Tuesday evening as the Pitching In Southern League Premier South club secured their place in the second round qualifying.
A hard-earned 1-0 replay victory over Cray Wanderers set up a home tie against Bedfont Sports in the next round of the competition.
“To be involved in the FA Cup as a player is huge,” said Alfie Pendlebury, who played his part in the win. “It’s great for the club that we’ve progressed into the next round because a run in this competition can do so much, both on and off the pitch.
“We had to work hard to get through and now we have a home tie to look forward to later this month.
“I think that generally we have started the season well. Two wins from our opening five League games is a decent return and I’ve been able to weigh in with a few goals as well, which is always nice.
“This is a tough League with lots of good teams in it. Those that have come into it for this season have made it even stronger, so we know that we are going to have to fight hard for every point that we earn, but we’re ready for that challenge.
“Our aim is to finish as high as we can. Last season we were able to secure an eighth-place finish, so if we could better that, it would be great.
“I am also targeting more goals than last season too in order to help the team.
“There are a lot of positive things happening here as the club continues to make forward strides in all aspects and I am enjoying being part of this progression.”
An away trip to Weymouth lies in wait on Saturday as the battle for precious League points resumes.
